There is no crypto industry. There are companies that build things that use crypto. There are foundations and non-profits that make software. There are people who buy cryptocurrency. But there's no crypto industry.

There is a banking industry, they even have their own national lobby groups. There's a recycling industry, a power industry, and other groups of companies that act relatively similarly and have similar interests, usually acting politically through trade associations. But crypto is like email or HTTP - it's a technology layer.

There is no email industry, just companies that use email. Or companies that make email software, or services for managing mailing lists. There's also an incredible number of spammers, fraudsters, and crooks that use email. The existence of spammers isn't somehow the responsibility of Microsoft Outlook or Mailchimp. The legitimate players who operate in the world of email despite the criminals and spammers that degrade their experiences. To the extent there's any coherent group of companies that operate in the crypto dealing business (which is sort of true), they are endlessly harassed by crooks. The frauds, scams, and synthetic identities that cause them anti-money laundering headaches or financial losses are a pain point for them. To say that crypto dealers are somehow in the same industry as the people who cause them harm is confusing. And yet I continue to be asked questions about what the industry thinks. In my experience, the people who run dealers are a diverse lot, who often don't agree on even basics about what laws should be passed, what best practices are, etc.

Although there's a somewhat coherent Canadian crypto dealer industry (if only because of the restricted dealer system and MSB VC dealer registration), it doesn't extend beyond that. The companies that make wallets, websites, and so much more aren't a part of that group.

There's no coherent industry that can be pointed to. And there never will be, because it's a global phenomenon and crypto is a permissionless technology that can be used in many ways.
